This is the 2010 collection by the applied artist Karen O'Kane.

It features a range of colourful, delicate and unique hand painted evening bags, brooches and scarves. Every item is a piece of art which is perfect for that special occasion or can be worn every day.

This year I am focusing mainly on textiles and painting on silk.

All the silk work is hand painted by myself in my studio in Ramelton, Co Donegal. I use a traditional serti technique and also a paint-wash technique which is similar to traditional water colour painting. This gives a more fluid design on the silk. Once I have painted on the silk, I transform it into handbags, brooches, scarves and cushion covers.

This year I have been inspired by the colour and form of botanical art and this translates well onto silk.
